Pittcon — the international conference and exposition on laboratory science — comes to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Downtown Pittsburgh on April 24–28, 2027. For Pittcon, this is a homecoming. The conference was founded here in 1950, met for the first time at the William Penn Hotel two blocks from where it will now convene, and has not been held in Pittsburgh in sixty years. It draws thousands of attendees from industry, academia and government.
Why a home beats a hotel for a conference week. A conference stay is not a weekend stay. Sessions run Saturday through Wednesday, which means four to six nights, most of them mid-week, and a rhythm that hotel rooms handle badly: early starts, long days on the exhibit floor, and evenings when what you want is a kitchen and a quiet room rather than a lobby bar. A whole home gives a research group or a company’s exhibit team somewhere to eat breakfast together, do laundry mid-week, spread out with a laptop, and actually sleep. For teams travelling together, one house is usually easier to book and easier to expense than a block of separate rooms.
Make a week of it. The convention center sits Downtown, walking distance from the Cultural District and a short bridge walk from the North Shore.
