Neighborhood

The Mexican War Streets gets its name after generals and battles of the Mexican-American War. Some of the architecture dates back to, and around, the 1850s and is one of the highlights of this neighborhood. Architecture styles include; Romanesque, Second Empire, Italianate, and Greek Revival. While most of properties are not grand in size, the quality of the craftsmanship has stood the test of time. Many of the residences, have renovated their brick row homes, and have added old-fashioned lanterns, uniquely colored trim work, and flower boxes. This has been in conjunction with the local MWS Historical Society to preserve the area’s old-world charm and elegance, making it a favorite local attraction. The neighborhood is small in size at 27 acres and the attractions right in the neighborhood include; The Mattress Factory, a contemporary art museum home to a collective of artists-in-residence and colorful Randyland. Places to eat include Commonplace Coffee and the Monterey Pub. Check out the distance to these attractions and landmarks... PNC Park - 4 min (1.0 mi) or only .7 mi walk through Allegheny Park! The house was as advertised. We were in town for a family wedding and stayed in this house with 3 couples total and a 16-month old toddler. All were happy and hap plenty of space. In addition, the house has an authentic Pittsburgh vibe with a super-cool mix of the old steel city and modern finishes and conveniences. And the en suite bathroom with each bedroom was a real comfort and convenience. Finally, Michael was a proactive and prompt communicator. We lacked for nothing.

Michael’s place on the North Side is the nicest Airbnb that I’ve stayed in. The three bedrooms and baths accommodated our group of five with ease. Sitting around the comfortable kitchen table in the morning drinking coffee while planning each day’s adventures was a delight. The neighborhood was quiet and felt safe. The location is within easy walking distance of restaurants, coffee shops, the National Arboretum, Buhl Planetarium, the Children’s Museum, and Allegheny Commons Park. Most importantly, it’s close to many major bus routes with easy connections to the rest of the city. Parking was tricky due to the residence parking permit program: we rented a car for a day and were limited to two hours of on-street parking during the day but no problem parking overnight between 7 PM and 7 AM.
