Football on Christmas weekend is its own kind of trip. Christmas falls on a Friday this year, so a lot of families are already together that weekend. A home game two days later turns the holiday into one long visit: presents Friday, the city Saturday, the Steelers after that. It comes one week after the Ravens game on December 20, so fans who can’t get into that one often make this their December game instead.
Why a home beats a hotel for Christmas-week football
Holiday travel is where hotels come up short. You need a kitchen for the leftovers and the big breakfast, a living room with enough seats for everyone, space to put the gifts, and somewhere warm to come back to after four quarters in late-December cold. One house holds the whole family, and nobody has to take the pull-out couch at someone’s place.
