Two nights, one arena. Rod Wave plays PPG Paints Arena on Friday, October 23, 2026 (the arena lists an 8:00 PM start), and the Penguins host the Nashville Predators in the same building on Saturday, October 24 (7:00 PM start, per ppgpaintsarena.com). The arena sits at 1001 Fifth Avenue in the Lower Hill, a short walk from Downtown. If you can get in a day early, the Penguins also host the Florida Panthers on Thursday, October 22. Confirm times and tickets at the arena’s own site before you book flights.
Why this weekend works. A Friday concert and a Saturday hockey game in the same arena means one neighborhood to learn, one parking plan, and two very different nights without moving the car twice. It is also a quieter booking window than the one that follows: Pitt hosts Georgia Tech on Halloween and the Steelers host the Browns on Nov. 1, so the Oct. 23–25 weekend is the easier one to get a house for.
Why a home beats a hotel for an arena weekend
Arena nights run late and end loud. A full home means everyone gets a real bedroom instead of sharing one hotel room, there is a kitchen for a slow breakfast before you head back toward the arena, and a washer for the jerseys. If you are coming in as a group — a few couples for the concert, a family or two for the game — one house keeps everyone together and keeps the cost per person down. Parking at the house means you can rideshare to the Lower Hill and skip the arena garage line entirely.
Make a weekend of it
Late October is the best-looking stretch of the year here, and the daytime hours are wide open. Phantom Fall Fest at Kennywood runs Friday night through Sunday that weekend, the Jack O’Lantern Extravaganza at the Pittsburgh Zoo is still lit, and the fall show at Phipps is a warm hour indoors on Saturday afternoon before the game.
