If you are picking one weekend to come to Pittsburgh this autumn, it is this one. Two stadium days back to back, a holiday Monday on the end of it, and the hills at the exact point in October when the whole city turns colour. There is no better argument for a long weekend here.
Saturday: Pitt vs North Carolina
Pitt hosts North Carolina at Acrisure Stadium on Saturday, October 10 — an ACC matchup with real national attention and a strong travelling crowd up from Chapel Hill.
Sunday: Steelers vs Colts
The Colts visit Acrisure on Sunday, October 11. Same stadium, same walk, one night later. Two games, one trip, no moving house in between — and because Monday is Columbus Day, nobody has to leave at dawn.
Why this weekend books before the others
We can be specific about this rather than vague. Mid-October is the most expensive weekend on our autumn calendar — Saturday the 10th prices at roughly four and a half times a normal weekday night in this city. That is not a hunch; it is what the market does with two stadium days, a holiday Monday and peak fall colour landing together.
It is also already moving. This weekend is picking up bookings faster than any other date on the autumn calendar, and it is still weeks out. Two travelling fanbases and a long weekend is a lot of demand for one city.
What to do with the rest of it
Second week of October is the best the rivers look all year. Take the Duquesne Incline up for the view that explains the whole city in ninety seconds, do the Strip District on Saturday morning before the game, and give Monday to the museums or a drive out for the fall colour before you head home. Where to stay for a two-game weekend
The whole case for a whole home is this weekend. Park once on Friday and do not move the car again. Walk to Saturday’s game, cook between games instead of eating out four times, walk to Sunday’s, and come back to one house with room for everyone who drove in. Three nights across a group usually lands well under a block of hotel rooms — and on a weekend priced like this one, that gap is not small.

And the fourth crowd: Pitt Family Weekend
There is a group in town that weekend that nobody counts, and it is the one that books whole houses. Pitt Family Weekend 2026 runs October 9–11 — the same three days — and Saturday’s Pitt–North Carolina game is the Family Weekend game. A few thousand families come in for it, most of them driving, most of them needing beds for four to eight people rather than a room for two.
Pitt runs official hotel blocks, but they sit Downtown, in Lawrenceville and at Southside Works, and they release on cut-off dates in early September.
