A Friday night home game is a rarity here, and it changes the shape of the trip: the city is already downtown for the evening, the stadium sits under lights on the North Shore, and Saturday is still yours.
Plan on Thursday to Sunday, not Friday to Saturday. Florida State travels well, Pitt’s biggest home date of the year lands on a Friday, and the Three Rivers Film Festival is running the same week — two demand waves on the same nights. Why a home beats a hotel for a Friday night game
Friday night football means you arrive during rush hour and leave near midnight. A house gives you somewhere to drop bags and eat before you walk over, parking you keep all weekend instead of hunting a lot twice, a kitchen for a real breakfast Saturday, and enough beds that nobody is sharing a hotel room with three other people who were also up until 1 AM.

Saturday is wide open with the game already played. Kennywood Holiday Lights opens that same week, the film festival has screenings running all weekend, and the Strip District on a Saturday morning is still the best two hours in the city.
