Thanksgiving in Pittsburgh is a four-day weekend that quietly has more going on than most people plan for. There is the meal, obviously. There is also a city that starts its holiday season the same week — and this year, a Steelers home game the day after.
Black Friday football
The Steelers host the Broncos on Black Friday, November 27, 2026. That is a genuinely unusual thing: a home game on the one afternoon of the year when the whole family is already in town and nobody has to work. If you have relatives visiting and you are looking for something to do that is not another meal or the mall, this is it.
It also means lodging demand that weekend is doing double duty — holiday visitors and football travellers competing for the same houses. Thanksgiving already books further ahead than any other date on our calendar. This year it will book earlier still.
The holiday season starts the same week
Light Up Night traditionally lands the Saturday before Thanksgiving, which means by the time you sit down to dinner, Downtown is already lit, the Holiday Market is open, and the rink at PPG Place is running. Kennywood Holiday Lights opens even earlier — November 13, 2026. Friday and Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend are two of the best nights of the year to do all of it, and the crowds are thinner than the two weekends before Christmas.

Where to stay for Thanksgiving weekend
